ISFJ- The Defender

January 4, by philipbullitthughes For the ISFJ—the quiet, devoted, caring, unobtrusive Guardian—dating has always presented its own set of challenges. For them, tradition is highly valued. Thus, the end goal of a romance should almost always be marriage. Casual dating is fine. Females expect their date to be on time, to be gentlemanly—holding doors, helping with their coats, and so on—and to not push them too far too fast. Males, especially when asking a girl out, like to be formal and courteous, doing their best to put their love-interest at ease. Once a date has been secured, they tend to plan every part of a date down to the minutest detail, leaving nothing up to chance. Now, it must be said that ISFJs absolutely abhor putting on airs and self-promotion.

INTJ Relationships

Strongly humanitarian in outlook, INFJs tend to be idealists, and because of their J preference for closure and completion, they are generally “doers” as well as dreamers. This rare combination of vision and practicality often results in INFJs taking a disproportionate amount of responsibility in the various causes to which so many of them seem to be drawn. INFJs are deeply concerned about their relations with individuals as well as the state of humanity at large.

They are, in fact, sometimes mistaken for extroverts because they appear so outgoing and are so genuinely interested in people — a product of the Feeling function they most readily show to the world. On the contrary, INFJs are true introverts, who can only be emotionally intimate and fulfilled with a chosen few from among their long-term friends, family, or obvious “soul mates.

This apparent paradox is a necessary escape valve for them, providing both time to rebuild their depleted resources and a filter to prevent the emotional overload to which they are so susceptible as inherent “givers.

ISTJ + ENTJ compatibility, relationships, dating. For example, an ENTJ can work spectacularly well with ISTJ employees but if it’s the other way around conflict can arise often. This happens because ENTJs like to question authority and ISTJs usually respect authority without much question. When an ENTJ is the employee, she will often.

Before a Relationship Compared to the other types, INTJs typically develop romantic relationships slightly later in life. This may be due to several different reasons. For one, INTJs do not inherently adhere to social rituals, as flirtation and small talk are viewed as obligatory rather than pleasurable. In addition, INTJs place a high focus on education and career, placing little thought on relationships until they feel that they have the time. Finally, they do not naturally display their emotions, which can be mistaken by others for a lack of affection or disinterest.

As INTJs mature, they generally excel in their area of expertise.

The ISTJ Romantic Relationships

They are quirky, romantic, shy, bubbly little introverts who have a capacity for love that is so large, it could very easily be considered a fault. Lord knows they would die before they initiated it. On the contrary, INFPs are passionately affectionate creatures. Unfortunately, they are still also shy. Go the extra mile. Put your arm around them.

Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one. Insisting they always “be there” for you and not allowing them space to discover other parts of themselves may end your relationship. Catalysts also need to allow others more emotional room than they themselves usually need–few people are as talented as Catalysts in living with and resolving conflicting feelings. Support Catalysts in any new quests or interests with the understanding that they will probably come around again in time to revisit and reintegrate the relationship.

They will disassociate from a person they believe can’t grow with them. Relationships are both paradise and hell for some individuals. So it’s no surprise that many people are anxious to learn more about type models so they can improve their relationships! For some, it may seem like a life saver. It felt like that to me! A self-help junkie, I read David Keirsey’s book, Please Understand Me in one day sitting at a temporary job assignment.

I stumbled across it at another temp job.

Whenever you see that combination of Sensing and Feeling cognitive functions, many other types think to run for the hills. But ironically, they are one of the most voluminous types by percentage of the population. Their ability to sense, feel and judge overruns their introverted desires to collect energy alone by insisting on expelling their energy into social situations. In fact, at times it seems like they have limitless energy to create positive change. They push away from themselves to work against the negative forces of the world.

They are purposeful, driven to success and forever in search of a new cause to join.

The INFJ’s thinking is introverted, turned toward the subject. Perhaps it is when the INFJ’s thinking function is operative that he is most aloof. A comrade might surmise that such detachment signals a disillusionment, that she has also been found lacking by the sardonic eye of this one who plumbs the depths of the human spirit.

Since ISFJs, like all SJs, are very much bound by the prevailing social conventions, their form of “service” is likely to exclude any elements of moral or political controversy; they specialize in the local, the personal, and the practical. ISFJs are often unappreciated, at work, home, and play. Ironically, because they prove over and over that they can be relied on for their loyalty and unstinting, high-quality work, those around them often take them for granted–even take advantage of them.

Admittedly, the problem is sometimes aggravated by the ISFJs themselves; for instance, they are notoriously bad at delegating “If you want it done right, do it yourself”. And although they’re hurt by being treated like doormats, they are often unwilling to toot their own horns about their accomplishments because they feel that although they deserve more credit than they’re getting, it’s somehow wrong to want any sort of reward for doing work which is supposed to be a virtue in itself.

And as low-profile Is, their actions don’t call attention to themselves as with charismatic Es. Because of all of this, ISFJs are often overworked, and as a result may suffer from psychosomatic illnesses. In the workplace, ISFJs are methodical and accurate workers, often with very good memories and unexpected analytic abilities; they are also good with people in small-group or one-on-one situations because of their patient and genuinely sympathetic approach to dealing with others.

ISFJs make pleasant and reliable co-workers and exemplary employees, but tend to be harried and uncomfortable in supervisory roles. They are capable of forming strong loyalties, but these are personal rather than institutional loyalties; if someone they’ve bonded with in this way leaves the company, the ISFJ will leave with them, if given the option.

Traditional careers for an ISFJ include: While their work ethic is high on the ISFJ priority list, their families are the centers of their lives.

The Ways in Which Each Myers-Briggs Type Handles Jealousy

When it comes to relationships though, they may have the deficiency of affection in contrast to the experience of other personality types. However, these relationships are very meaningful to an ISTJ individual. Although they are not so expressive and demonstrative in terms of relationships and dating, they care a lot about honor, keeping promises, loyalty, and responsibility. Naturally, ISTJ personalities start out relationships conservatively.

Moreover, they treat almost each situation with rationality, including romantic endeavors. Likewise, it is not there nature to go after someone whom they feel too much as their polar opposite.

ISFJ (introverted, sensing, feeling, judging) is one of the 16 personality types identified on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). The MBTI was developed by Isabel Meyers and her mother Katherine Briggs based on the theories of psychoanalyst Carl who have ISFJ personalities tend to be reserved, warm-hearted and responsible.

SJs are interested in security and tradition, while NTs will choose challenge and innovation over that, any time. Possible stumbling blocks Problems will arise if one or both of the types are imbalanced individuals; for example if the ENTJ is too much oriented towards thinking and ignores the feeling aspect of situations or if the ISFJ is too stubborn, overprotective or emotional. There are some other possible stumbling blocks too. They are also quite conventional and traditional, and might be a little frightened if the ENTJ gets too unconventional and out of the ordinary.

They can offer stability, harmony and reliability and the ENTJ will appreciate that. One common trait of these two types is that they are both dedicated to finishing things and usually both are orderly, although the ENTJ might not care too much for orderliness in their physical environment.

Guide to INFJ Relationships

As it turns out, Idealists pair best with other idealists. As fellow idealists, the INFJ and ENFP are on the same wavelength in terms of their fondness for new possibilities and their soulful quest for fulfillment and meaning in almost all aspects of their lives. They share similar qualities but also a number of distinct differences. These two types have great chemistry and can potentially form a long lasting and satisfying relationship. The INFJ for their part, loves spending time with their beloved, performing thoughtful gestures, and lavishing them with attention and affection.

Based on the personality archetypes identified by Carl Jung, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator helps people make sense of the seemingly disconnected behaviors performed by themselves and others. The MBTI is used in applications ranging from pre-employment screening to identifying learning styles. Marriage counselors often use the MBTI to identify areas of struggle, and many couples use it on their own in an effort to determine their compatibility.

Understanding the MBTI The MBTI personality inventory is based on the idea that behavior is generally internally consistent based on the ways that the person perceives and interprets the world. Grounded in Jungian theory, the test uses four different dimensions to define 16 personality archetypes. Each personality type is considered equal, but each has its individual perspective on the world.
